The story
Aethalia
The ancient Greek name of Elba · «spark»
The ancient Greeks called this island Aethalia — spark. Not as metaphor, but as vision: from the sea, at night, the Etruscan furnaces lit up the sky. Those were the fires of those who smelted the purest iron in Europe, the metal that built the ancient Mediterranean.
The same name later christened Italy's first modern ferry, in the 1950s: the Aethalia, with its liveried barmen and crystal glasses, brought the world to the island and opened the era of tourism. Elegance, craft, the future. The same spirit that inhabits this villa.
